Battling Lymphoma

My name is Kayla. I am 21 years old and I created this blog to document my journey. I was recently diagnosed with a type of cancer; Hodgkin Lymphoma (stage II). My course of treatment for the next 4-6 months will be chemotherapy. Although Hodgkin Lymphoma has a very good prognosis - it is still very frightening to be diagnosed with a serious illness. Hopefully my blog will help others fighting this disease as well as the family members and friends who support them :)

What is Hodgkin Lymphoma?
Hodgkin Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer which affects the lymphatic system. It’s actually one of the most curable forms of cancer, so in that respect I am lucky. The cure rate for younger patients is 90%.

Chemotherapy is the type of treatment that I am receiving. There are a few different combinations of chemotherapy drugs that can be used to treat HL. The combination that I am being treated with is ABVD (Adriamycin, Bleomycin, Vinblastine, Dacarbazine). These four drugs will work in different ways to kill the cancerous cells in my body. Unfortunately, these drugs also kill the good cells - making chemotherapy really tough on your body at times.
